25+ Women-Owned Businesses Join HAMRA’s Digital Marketplace

Turning local businesses into digital opportunities for Afghan women entrepreneurs

Women entrepreneurs are an important part of Afghanistan’s local economy. They operate across a wide range of sectors, including restaurants, shops, home-based enterprises and professional services. Yet reaching customers and building a visible presence in an increasingly digital marketplace can remain challenging.

HAMRA is working to help bridge that gap.

Through its Women-Owned Business Initiative, HAMRA has connected more than 25 women-owned businesses to its digital marketplace, providing practical pathways for businesses to establish a digital presence and become more visible to customers.

The initiative forms part of HAMRA’s broader commitment to increasing women’s participation in Afghanistan’s digital economy.

From Local Business to Digital Presence

HAMRA works with participating women-owned businesses to bring their products and services into its digital ecosystem.

The onboarding process supports businesses in establishing or improving their digital presence through business profiles, service or product listings, and clear customer-facing information.

Depending on the business category, customers can use HAMRA’s ecosystem to discover participating providers and interact with them through listings, orders, bookings and other available service channels.

For a small business, this creates something important: another pathway to be discovered by potential customers.

More Than 25 Women-Owned Businesses Connected

Today, more than 25 women-owned businesses are connected to HAMRA’s marketplace, including businesses operating in areas such as restaurants, shops, home-based enterprises and professional services.

HAMRA’s approach to business participation focuses on four practical steps:

  1. ONBOARD — Create or strengthen a digital business presence, service listing and customer-facing information.
  2. BUILD SKILLS — Support the practical use of smartphones, digital communication, content creation, customer service and basic platform tools.
  3. REACH MARKETS — Connect businesses with customers through digital listings, discovery, orders, bookings and partner channels.
  4. GROW & LEARN — Use customer feedback, service records and collaboration to strengthen visibility and improve the customer experience.

These steps are also reflected in HAMRA’s current corporate model for supporting women-led businesses.

Building Practical Pathways to Participation

Connecting a business to a digital marketplace is not only a technical process. It is a practical pathway that can help women entrepreneurs present their work, reach new customers and participate more visibly in Afghanistan’s evolving digital economy.

HAMRA will continue working to strengthen these pathways by supporting business onboarding, digital skills development, market access and learning through real customer interactions.

HAMRA’s Women-Owned Business Initiative is part of its broader work to support inclusive digital participation and economic opportunity for women in Afghanistan.
