Corporate policy — official statement

This is the Sustainability Commitment Statement of Hamra Online Services Company, covering environmental, social and economic responsibility across our governance, digital services, procurement, partnerships and support to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

1. Formal commitment

Hamra Online Services Company is committed to conducting its business responsibly and to integrating environmental, social and economic sustainability into its governance, digital services, procurement, partnerships and support to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Hamra applies a proportionate approach suited to its scale and operating context in Afghanistan, while seeking continuous improvement and compliance with applicable legal, contractual and donor requirements.

2. Our sustainability commitments

Environmental protection. Prevent pollution, use energy, water and materials responsibly, manage waste and e-waste safely, reduce avoidable emissions, and avoid harm to biodiversity, water sources, agricultural land and community assets. These commitments are detailed in Hamra's Environmental and Sustainability Policy and operationalized through Hamra Green.

Human rights and labour standards. Respect internationally recognized human rights and the dignity of workers; prohibit discrimination, harassment, exploitation, forced labour and child labour; support fair and transparent recruitment; and maintain safe channels for personnel to raise concerns in good faith.

Gender equality and inclusion. Promote equal opportunity, meaningful participation and leadership for women, including women with disabilities and women facing social, geographic or digital barriers. As a Women's Empowerment Principles signatory, Hamra seeks to translate gender-equality commitments into its workplace, services, partnerships and marketplace engagement.

Staff health, safety and well-being. Provide a respectful working environment, identify health and safety risks, promote reasonable workloads and psychosocial well-being, protect personnel from retaliation, and respond appropriately to safeguarding, harassment and workplace concerns.

Local communities. Engage communities respectfully, avoid creating preventable harm or unreasonable burdens, consider accessibility and local context, protect personal and community data, and use feedback to improve services and project decisions.

Women-owned MSMEs. Expand equitable access to digital markets, business information, service networks and practical green-business opportunities. Hamra will avoid requirements that unnecessarily exclude women-led enterprises with limited capital, mobility, connectivity or formal business experience.

Life-cycle value and sustainable consumption. Consider total cost of ownership — including durability, energy use, maintenance, repairability, reuse and responsible end-of-life disposal — rather than relying only on the lowest initial purchase price. Hamra will reduce unnecessary consumption and packaging where feasible.

Responsible supply chains. Communicate relevant labour, safeguarding, environmental, integrity and data-protection expectations to suppliers and service providers; consider sustainability risks in material purchases; retain proportionate evidence; and address serious non-compliance through corrective action or disengagement where necessary.

3. Implementation and accountability

Hamra will implement this statement through proportionate actions that include:

  1. assigning management responsibility and integrating relevant commitments into workplans, procurement and project decisions;
  2. conducting appropriate environmental, social, labour, safeguarding and supply-chain risk screening for material activities and suppliers;
  3. providing role-appropriate staff orientation and communicating relevant requirements to partners and contractors;
  4. maintaining practical records, indicators and corrective-action follow-up; and
  5. reviewing this statement and related policies annually or following significant operational, legal or contractual change.

4. Tangible progress through Hamra Green

Hamra has established Hamra Green as its dedicated environmental action and green-innovation initiative. Hamra Green provides an institutional mechanism for connecting environmental responsibility with Hamra's digital services, partnerships and support to women-owned MSMEs. Tangible progress to date includes:

  • formally defining Hamra Green within Hamra's governance structure rather than presenting it as a separate legal entity;
  • adopting an Environmental and Sustainability Policy that addresses energy and resource efficiency, responsible procurement, waste and e-waste, travel, emissions, environmental risk screening and annual monitoring;
  • integrating green-business guidance, climate-risk awareness, circular-economy thinking and responsible consumption into Hamra's planned support for women-owned MSMEs and service providers;
  • designing Hamra's digital-service approach around low-bandwidth access and digital workflows that can reduce unnecessary printing and travel; and
  • linking environmental action with Hamra's commitment as a Women's Empowerment Principles signatory so that sustainability and women's economic empowerment reinforce one another.

An honest accounting

These actions constitute Hamra's current institutional evidence of progress. As an early-stage company, Hamra will distinguish documented results from targets and future ambitions and will not make unsupported sustainability claims.
